About This Role:
The Department of Diagnostic Medicine/Pathobiology

University College of Veterinary Medicine is offering a residency
in veterinary anatomic pathology. Two positions are available
starting between June 1 and August 1, 2023. We are seeking highly
motivated, hard-working, and dependable individuals with a DVM or
equivalent degree, a great sense of humor and a keen interest in
being a life-long learner, in addition to strong interest and
motivation to pursue a career in anatomic veterinary pathology.
This is a full-time position with the possibility of annual renewal
for up to 3 years based on performance.
Successful candidates will join our team of faculty board certified
anatomic veterinary pathologists and current anatomic pathology
resident trainees (3) in the Kansas State Veterinary Diagnostic
Laboratory (KSVDL) and Department of Diagnostic
Medicine/Pathobiology (DMP). Goals of the residency program are to
prepare trainees for a career as veterinary anatomic pathologists
via a solid understanding of the pathologic basis of disease, and
master diagnostic skills including necropsy, biopsy, mail in case
management, and we provide opportunities to improve instruction
proficiency of 2nd and 4th year DVM students (labs and lectures).
Our goal is to prepare you towards successful completion of Phases
1 and 2 of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists
certification examination.
Manhattan, Kansas is a vibrant city with a recent and ongoing
rejuvenation of its beautiful downtown. It is located within 2
hours of the two larger cities, Kansas City, KS and Wichita, KS.
There are ample opportunities for outdoor activities including the
Linear Trail, Konza Prairie Preserve of the Flint Hills and the
Kansas River as well as several area lakes. In addition, KSU CVM is
located next to Biosecurity Research Institute (BSL-4 agriculture
infectious disease laboratory), and the National Bio and
Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF), a state-of-the-art laboratory
facility with BSL-4 biocontainment space for the study of
high-consequence infectious diseases of livestock scheduled to open
in 2023.
First year residents receive an annual stipend of $37,518 and are
eligible for standard university employee health insurance
benefits.
