About This Role:
Kansas State University invites nominations and applications for
the position of Department Head, Department of Applied Human
Sciences, in the College of Health and Human Sciences. We seek a
candidate who will provide collaborative leadership to a department
that consists of 10 academic programs: Conflict Resolution,
Communication Sciences and Disorders, Couple and Family Therapy,
Early Childhood Education, Family and Community Services, Family
and Consumer Sciences Education, Integrative Human Sciences, Human
Development and Family Science, Life Span Human Development, and
Prevention Science. In addition, the department participates in the
Great Plains Interactive Education Alliance (GPIDEA) and has three
Extension Specialists through Kansas State Research and Extension
(KSRE). The successful candidate must be a broad thinker, a strong
advocate for the units, College, and University, a deliberate
decision-maker, visionary, and responsible fiscal manager. The
position reports directly to the Dean of the College of Health and
Human Sciences.

This full-time, 12-month position at the rank of associate or full
professor has a proposed starting date of August 2023, with a
competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department of Applied Human Sciences (AHS) consists of 10
academic programs as well as Cooperative Extension and related
grant programs. The department also supports the Family Center,
Center for Child Development, and Speech and Hearing Center. The
department employs about 80 faculty and staff members and 30
graduate assistants. We are home to over 400 undergraduates, 135
graduate students, and 300 minor and certificate students. The
department currently has over $5.1 million in external funding. The
department is committed to conducting comprehensive research with a
focus on mental, physical, and relational health and well-being
through multidisciplinary collaborations; providing
transformational educational experiences to students; and enhancing
the well-being of individuals, families, and communities through
engaged and collaborative research, teaching, and service that
addresses human needs and improves societal conditions.
The College of Health and Human Sciences is home to six academic
departments (Applied Human Sciences; Food, Nutrition, Dietetics &
Health; Hospitality Management; Interior Design & Fashion Studies;
Personal Financial Planning; and Kinesiology) and three academic
units (Interdisciplinary Program in Gerontology; Physician
Assistant Program; Nursing partnership with Wichita State
University). The College enrolls more than 2,300 undergraduate and
400 graduate students and employs more than 115 full-time faculty
members in teaching, research, and Extension positions (
