About This Role: The Landscape Technician II is part of the Housing and Dining Services' grounds team who provide safe, well maintained, aesthetically pleasing grounds for the campus community. This position provides technical knowledge and expertise in grounds maintenance and irrigation operations; assists with planting; tree and turf grass maintenance; watering; disease diagnosis; chemical applications; irrigation installation/repair; hardscape installation; snow removal; and equipment operation.   • Observe and perform best management practices for landscape material and turf grass on Kansas State University Housing and Dining Services' grounds by diagnosis and control of diseases, weeds, insect problems and irrigation requirements and repairs. Perform irrigation audits and make required repairs while keeping an up to date inventory of parts. Assist in the installation of new landscape and irrigation projects
  • Operate and maintain grounds related equipment by making minor repairs, performing preventive maintenance for safe operation of tools and equipment. Maintain service records. Equipment regularly operated includes mowers, tillers, sprayers, chain saws, hedge trimmers, skid loaders, tractors/attachments, dump trucks, service vehicles.
  • Removes snow by operating hand tools, tractors and power operated equipment, spreading salt and sand to provide safe sidewalks, steps, parking lots and other passage ways and areas for students, employees and guests. The incumbent is subject to calls outside regular work hours, particularly for weather-related work such as snow removal.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to include occasional attendance at conferences and workshops.
  • Performs all duties in a manner that promotes a harmonious work environment that espouses civility and the University Principles of Community. What Youll Need to Succeed: Minimum Requirements:
    • Requires six months of relevant experience. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by a hiring manager. Preferred Qualifications:
      • Prefer high school graduation/GED
      • Experience working in an institutional grounds maintenance unit
      • Ability to read, interpret and work from sketches, blueprints, and specifications
      • Ability to complete concise and accurate reports and records
      • Ability to plan, organize, and communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
      • Ability to act with integrity; show consistency, practice dependability, and reliability; remain diplomatic and display a high degree of initiative Other Requirements:
        • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
        • Valid drivers license upon employment
        • Must obtain a Commercial Pesticide Applicators certificate in 3A and 3B within 6 months of appointment
        • This position is considered essential during a Declaration of Inclement Weather and is subject to call-back after hours for snow removal/treatment of icy walkways and roadways and other weather-related conditions.
